Tip of the Week – Distractions – Oct 9/23

Distractions:  Whether you are working from home or going to work outside of the home, there are many distractions in a day that can shift your focus.

Working from home has many different distractions, such as cleaning, cooking, children, animals, friends calling, and other personal distractions, along with work distractions that can shift your direction and priorities depending on what is going on.

Distractions in the work place often take the form of meetings, having to react to what new thing is happening today – we call it putting out or fighting fires, new priorities, someone in the organization leaving which now adds more workload to others and those are just to name a few.  Some other distractions can be personal phone calls, co-worker conversations or problems, snacks, water cooler conversations, website browsing, online shopping and so forth.

There are distractions everywhere that continually shift and change your hour, day or week to keep you from accomplishing your list of things planned to do.

Some of these distractions may actually help you get some things off your list, but most do add to your list.

How you prioritize these distractions will either help you accomplish your current tasks or it will add a lot of time and items to your current tasks.

Always take a moment to reprioritize and make changes to your list, so that you are indeed accomplishing things and feeling a sense of accomplishment, while at the same time, confirming that what you are spending your time on is the top priority.

Questions to Ponder:

What are your biggest distractions?

Are they personal or work related?

How can you lessen your distractions?
