Tip of the Week – Safety – May 6/24

Safety: With NAOSH week upon us, what have you planned to mark this week specifically for your company and industry.  The following excerpt was taken from https://www.youracsa.ca/news-events/naosh-week/

NAOSH Week (North American Occupational Safety and Health Week) was first launched in June 1997. During the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) talks, workplace safety within the boundaries of all three nations was discussed by each country’s labour department representatives. Canada’s representative at these talks was familiar with Canada’s COHS Week (CSSE’s Canadian Occupational Health and Safety Week) and suggested to his Mexican and American counterparts that their countries may wish to become involved in a similar endeavour. It was agreed that CSSE would adopt the North American concept and implement it in place of the Canadian Week, and it was deemed the proprietor and governing body.

The goal of NAOSH Week is to focus employers, employees, partners and the public on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home and in the community.

The theme this year is "Make Safety a Habit!" https://wcb.mb.ca/naosh-week#:~:text=SAFE%20Work%20is%20important%20to%20all%20Canadians.&text=This%20year%2C%20North%20American%20Occupational,%22Make%20Safety%20a%20Habit!%22

Take time to put something together and have some focus around safety during NAOSH week.

You can find lots of information, events and activities online – you do not have to reinvent the wheel or take a lot of time to figure this out but this is a prime opportunity to make safety a focal point and priority.

Questions to Ponder:

Do you regularly prioritize NAOSH week in your organization or business?

How do you make safety relatable?

Is safety a priority to you and your staff?
