Tip of the Week – First Day – Mar 6/23

First day:  Think back to your first day.

How did you feel?

What did you do?

What did you notice?

How have you grown since then?

During your first week, did you think of changing some things or notice that some things could benefit by changing?

Did you ever make an effort to do that?

During our first week, we see things differently than those that have been there for years.  We notice the organization or disorganization, chaos or order, tension or fun atmosphere, etc.

Did you take initiatives to make those changes or did you fit into the current culture and join the chaos!?

People tend to notice things on their first week, things that we may or may not notice after being there for years.  Take advantage of that moment and make a point of sitting down with the new employee and gaining insight from their new perspective.

In fact, I think it is beneficial to do this regularly with staff on a one on one basis to see what ideas, concepts, suggestions they have and see what changes can be made for the benefit of the business.

I think by not discussing things with the staff like this and making these opportunities possible that it is lost opportunity.  People have different views, perspectives, ideas and concepts that can make all the difference in the world.

Survey your staff, get their perspective, make change happen – this gets them invested in the future of your company.

Questions to Ponder:

Is your current business environment staff friendly for ideas to be presented openly?

Are you open to new ideas and concepts to be presented?
