Tip of the Week – Incidents – July 1/24

Incidents:  How do you handle incidents that happen in the workplace?

Some people have a system or process in place for this, with the necessary paperwork to record such mishaps, some don’t.

Although, we hope that we do not have to deal with these, they can and do happen.

It is important to have things set in place, so that everyone knows how this needs to be dealt and recorded.  After one has happened, it can be hard to remember the necessary details, if there isn’t something in place beforehand.

Putting an Incident Reporting or Procedure in place also sets everything in motion in the direction that creates a calmer, more manageable environment.  It helps keep people from panicking, as they know they grab the form and follow the steps, documenting as they go, contacting the right people from the beginning of the process.

This alleviates the stress on anyone involved.

Let everyone know where the documentation is located, go through the process with the staff, review it every so often, updating as you go and keep it easily accessible for when it is needed.

Questions to Ponder:

Do you have something currently in place?

Is it sufficient?

Has it been reviewed and updated?

Does everyone know about it?

If you don’t have anything in place, should you?
