Tip of the Week – Warehouse Cleanliness – Sept 9/24

Warehouse Cleanliness:  Why is it important to have a clean, organized warehouse?

Cleaning and organizing your warehouse can be a chore – it took time to get to the point that it is and it will take time to get it to make changes.  It is well worth it to have it organized and while you are organizing and moving things, clean it – then the whole area by the end of it will have been cleaned once and then there isn’t dirt and grunge under and around things.

Once you have taken the time to organize and clean it, then label things accordingly, so that they are super easy to find.  If you have racking, use magnetic labels, so that you can switch where they are if other changes need to be made.

If you don’t have racking, would it be something to look in to?

The difference will be amazing and you will have higher productivity due to the cleanliness.

After the housekeeping adventure, sustaining the warehouse is key and way easier and less time consuming than it was to get it to that point. Make the effort to keep it organized and come up with a weekly cleaning schedule.

Clean Warehouse benefits:

  • Better work environment
  • Find items easier
  • Easier for new employees
  • Cleaner for clients, if they are allowed to be in the warehouse
  • Rodent deterrent – rodents do not like clean places
  • Better time management
  • A sense of pride within

When you are done making the changes, I want you to walk through the warehouse slowly and take in the time and effort you put in.

Questions to Ponder:

Could your warehouse use a little cleaning up?

Would it be beneficial to have it organized?

Who would it benefit?

How does your warehouse make you feel inside currently?

Do you feel different now that it is organized and clean?

Does it flow the way you have organized it, or would it be beneficial to shift a few items to different spots for better flow?

Keep tweaking it as needed and keep up with the cleaning – don’t let it go…stay on top of it!
