Tip of the Week – Work Ethic – Jan 31/22

My work ethic:  I would consider myself very fortunate.  One of my first jobs was working for my dad.  We owned a food van and a restaurant.  I helped out and worked where I could around my schedule as a tween.  We lived in a small town, so our house was 1 ½ blocks from the restaurant and 2 ½ from my school.

I went and helped out before school, at lunch and then after my activities…and I was active.  I played sports – volleyball, baseball, badminton, and played the piano and took voice lessons.

We were a busy family.  But we worked well together and enjoyed each other’s company.  You have to in the tight quarters of a food van! Lol

Working for my dad was not an easy task.  My dad was a workaholic, a perfectionist and liked things done right the first time.

I am very grateful that he was my first boss.  He taught me how to work, what was important, what to look at, how to prioritize, how to keep things organized and clean, customers come first, relationships with your customers is what makes your business successful and many things in between.

It made me who I am today as an employee, consultant, contractor, broker and entrepreneur.

Working for and with family is never an easy task but it can be very rewarding.

I also had the privilege of learning how to cook – well and bake.  I cooked, baked, waitressed, cleaned, was cashier and that was back in the day where you had to figure it out – our register just added it up – you had to figure out the change and count it back!

I learned a lot those 2 ½ years of my life and I am forever grateful for that time and experience.  It was a very busy time, but it gave me an amazing foundation in which to build on.
